Cases
Delivery of a Chia Seed Shipment from Paraguay to Moscow
About the client and the task
This was the client’s first shipment of chia seeds from Paraguay. The initial plan was a direct ocean service to Saint Petersburg at a high rate.
Our task was to find a more cost-efficient, yet reliable solution — keeping transit time on plan and maintaining full control over every stage of the shipment.
Our task was to find a more cost-efficient, yet reliable solution — keeping transit time on plan and maintaining full control over every stage of the shipment.
Cargo details
Chia seeds (phytosanitary / quarantine-controlled cargo).
Route
Paraguay → Europe → Saint Petersburg → Moscow.
Client's wishes
Reduce transportation cost without extending the overall transit time.
Features of transportation
- First shipment from a new supplier.
- Tight document control required, including the phytosanitary certificate.
- The cargo could not be reloaded (no re-stuffing) in transit.
Our Solution
We reviewed routing options via Novorossiysk and Saint Petersburg and proposed a combined scheme:
- Used SOC equipment (shipper-owned container).
- Arranged shipment via two different services with a connection in Europe.
- Selected routing via the Port of Saint Petersburg.
- Ensured full documentation support at every stage.
Result for the client
- Transportation cost reduced by 35% versus the initial option.
- Full documentation set prepared, including the phytosanitary certificate.
- Cargo successfully passed phytosanitary inspection at the port.
- Planned transit time was maintained — 2 months from pickup to warehouse delivery.
Feedback
Thanks to our experience with food-grade cargo and knowledge of alternative routing options, we delivered a solution that balanced cost efficiency with reliability.
